So I find myself back in CA again this week. I flew out yesterday and after a day of work headed up to Napa for the night. I got to the hotel and had about 2 hours to kill before dinner so I got changed and headed out. My first thought was to go take care of some unfinished business and cross the finish line from the Napa Marathon. Well after a second or two I scrapped that idea. I don't like to live in the past or even dwell on the past often for those of you that don't know that about me. So onto the future and a 50k trail run. I remembered there was a park with a trail system about a mile from the hotel so I headed out to the trails. An hour later and with over 6 miles in I showered and headed out for dinner. I was going to get some miles in this morning as well but the long day of travel and my run from yesterday didn't have me feeling very energized. I'll end my day today down in Santa Cruz so my plan is to try and get some time to hit the trails again tonight. Gotta get in the miles you know. All this work and family stuff has put a kink in my travel. Even though I did good in Cleveland my endurance isn't what it was. I hope experience makes uf for some of the endurance and I run a smart buckeye. You know think with the head on my shoulders and not try to run the way I love to (flat out).
I hope to keep up the energy level and training this week and maybe even try to best my 4 mile PR from last year at the VR run. I'm actually thinking about just hitting the 2 mile fun run with the kids though. It's rough because my competitive side wants to race by a fatherly voice in my head keeps telling me running the fun run will do more for me in the long run. Letting my children experience what I have found and loved. If I can get them on the healthy track that it took me so long to find. I can prevent the years of teasing and missing out that I went through. Oh my daughter just received her certificates for reaching the presidential level on the national fitness test.
